1. Who we are and what AUSynth is
AUSynth is a product operated by Verosynthea (the “Company”, “we”, “us”). Where these terms refer to “AUSynth” they refer to the service; where they refer to “we” they refer to Verosynthea as the legal entity providing it. Review by legal counsel: company name + ABN once registered
AUSynth provides two things:
- Synthetic data — pre-generated synthetic Australian population records, calibrated to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Census, downloadable as CSV, Excel, or Parquet.
- Statistical reports — pre-built analyses run on official ABS conditional tables, returned as branded HTML, PDF, and CSV reports.
Both are sold as one-off downloads paid for with credits. You are buying access to specific files, not an ongoing subscription.
2. Your account
You sign in with a magic-link email — no password. You are responsible for keeping your email account secure. If you give someone access to your email, they can sign in as you.
You must be at least 18 years old. One account per person. API keys you create stay private to you; if a key leaks, revoke it from your account page.
3. Credits and payment
Credits are the unit of account on AUSynth. 1 credit = 500 observations at the base rate. Hierarchical-geography queries cost 1.5× base. Analyses are individually priced (see Pricing).
- Purchased credits never expire. They remain on your account until used.
- Free credits — accounts receive 5 free credits each calendar week (Monday 00:00 UTC). Unused free credits do not roll over to the next week.
- Credit deductions are atomic: if a download or analysis fails before delivery, the credits are automatically refunded.
Payments are processed by Stripe. AUSynth does not see or store your card details.
4. What you can do with the data
Once delivered, downloaded data and reports are yours to use, including for commercial purposes. You may:
- Use the synthetic data to train statistical and machine learning models, run analyses, populate demos, or build internal tools.
- Reproduce summary statistics or chart excerpts from analysis reports in your own publications, with attribution.
- Share derived outputs with clients, colleagues, or the public.
You may not:
- Redistribute raw downloaded files or reports verbatim, in whole or in substantial part, as if they were your own product. Bulk mirroring or reselling AUSynth output is prohibited.
- Misrepresent synthetic data as actual census data or imply it represents specific real individuals (none of the records do).
- Attempt to reverse-engineer the generation methodology, or use the data to train a competing synthetic-data service.
5. Acceptable use
Don't do things that would obviously be harmful: no automated scraping or abuse of the free tier, no probing for security vulnerabilities without prior written consent, no use of the platform to violate any law.
Rate limits apply to API access (60 requests per minute per API key). We may suspend accounts that repeatedly exceed limits or appear to be gaming the free tier (for example, by creating many accounts to accumulate free credits).
6. Data accuracy and disclaimers
AUSynth's synthetic records are statistically representative of Australian demographics but are not real individuals. The data has known fidelity limits — see Quality benchmarks and Methodology.
Reports are based on official ABS data and standard statistical techniques. They are intended to support — not replace — domain-expert interpretation. We do not guarantee that any specific analysis is fit for your specific decision.
7. Intellectual property
AUSynth owns the platform, the synthesis methodology, and the report templates. You own the queries you create and any work product you derive from delivered data or reports. Source ABS data remains copyright of the Commonwealth of Australia (Creative Commons Attribution).
8. Limitation of liability
Review by legal counsel: limitation of liability clause
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Verosynthea's total liability to you for any loss arising from your use of AUSynth is limited to the amount you have paid us in the previous 12 months. This does not exclude or limit any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded.
9. Termination
You may close your account at any time by emailing support. We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms, with notice unless the breach is severe. Unused purchased credits at termination by us (other than for breach) are refunded.
10. Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be flagged in-app and emailed to active accounts. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
11. Governing law
Review by legal counsel: governing law + jurisdiction clause
These terms are governed by the laws of [the State of Victoria], Australia. Any dispute is to be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.
